Sen. Whitehouse (D, RI) and COP29 – his 295th climate talk to the Senate
On November 21, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) delivered this speech to Congress, his 295th on the topic, urging his colleagues to WAKE UP to the threat of climate change. He discusses his recent trip to COP29, reviews the progress that many countries have made to tackle global warming, including the US, and notes that global progress will continue even despite Trump’s ascension to his gilded throne and the Republican Party’s abdication of America’s global leadership on climate.

Sen. Whitehouse discusses both ongoing physical changes to the atmosphere and oceans and current and expected economic impacts. Those impacts range from rising insurance and food costs to lower property values and fewer employment opportunities. He eloquently calls on his colleagues to take action on climate change because every day of delay means more heating of the planet and impacts to human society and earth’s ecosystems.
What can you do? Please write and/or call your elected representatives and demand action on climate legislation. With the Trump/MAGA trifecta, it’s now even more important than ever.
As always, please let me know your thoughts about this and other weekly articles/etc. of special interest.
Cheers
Bill
