COPx; the people’s climate network
Today I received this article about COPx, an activity organized by a global team of sustainability leaders to do what the Conferences of the Parties (COPs) have failed to do. The past two COPs (COP28 in Dubai UAE & COP29 Baku, Azerbaijan) have had more fossil fuel executives than many national delegations. This fact caused former UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon and former UN climate chief Christiana Figueres to write in an open letter that the COP process is “no longer fit for purpose”. This is a sentiment many climate activists echo saying that it has resulted in insufficient progress toward the necessary transition off fossil fuels.
According to their website, COPx is organizing globally at a community level to demand action on the climate.
COPx: Conferences of people worldwide
“Thousands of small events create a bottom up, decentralized global climate conference. An alternative to the empty UN-ritual, every COPx will identify a little piece of action that can and will be done locally, right away. Every small step makes the difference.“
So, check out the website and consider joining their call to action on either a small, individual scale or a large (or massive) collective scale. Based on the way the world seems to be heading, we need all the voices and actions possible.
Please let me know your thoughts and ideas for actions we each and all can take.
Cheers, Bill
