Communicating scientific knowledge is difficult under the best of circumstances. Trying to educate the population using accessible language makes that task nearly impossible. Anthropogenic climate change is called “global warming” for several reasons. Perhaps the most important reason is that the name embodies the sense of urgency we feel as we look at the data that defines the coefficients in some very scary differential equations. See, there I go again … jargon, jargon and more jargon.
