Wildfire & Climate feedback loops
Here in Oregon our fire danger indicators vary between high and extreme for most of the summer and fall, a trend that has worsened over the past decades.
KDRV NewsWatch 12This article published August 1st by the World Resources Institute (WRI) graphically presents the “Climate-Fire Feedback Loop”. This is an example of a positive feedback loop, although its results are anything but positive for humans and forest inhabitants.
The cycle is simple: hotter, drier climate – makes – forests more fire prone – leads to – bigger, more destructive fires – results in – more GHG emissions – causing – a hotter, drier climate.
And the cycle continues.
How do we break the cycle? Stop putting more CO2 into the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels (& emitting other greenhouse gasses).
What can you to? Support and elect climate-concerned representatives, work to electrify everything, live as climate conscious as possible. And, Talk to Everyone You Know to help stop global warming.
