Stay cool, buddy.
Two years after an extreme heat event known as a “heat dome” struck the Pacific Northwest, the state of Oregon is rolling out a rebate program prompted in part by the deadly event and aimed at getting heat pumps into rental homes and properties.
The heat dome, which trapped hot air over the region, took place over five days in late June 2021, when temperatures topped out at 116 degrees in Portland. In all, the heat wave led to more than 500 deaths in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Canada, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting.
