Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Southern Oregon
(Fall 2022)
Thank you for signing up to participate;
I
hope you enjoy the experience.
As the term approaches and unfolds, I will provide links as needed from this page to relevant documents and web sites.
If you have any questions, please email me
or call my cell 541-301-4107. Although we have no land line, we have just installed a VOIP system which is more reliable at home: 541-500-2331 so, if you have problems getting through on the first number (it frequently goes directly to the recorded message without ringing when we are at home), try the second. My wife’s name is Kathy Conway, so if she answers the second number, don’t be surprised.

Session I – September 13
Course Introduction, including a preview of the main effects of greenhouse gas emissions (global warming and ocean acidification), and a discussion of the consensus scientific explanation, and introduction to the greenhouse gas emissions (carbon) footprint calculator.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Southern Oregon 2022 course description and weekly topic outline.
Exploratory Questionnaire Fall 2022 A preview questionnaire to assess attitudes, understanding, and what participants want.

Berkeley Cool Climate Greenhouse Gas Footprint Calculator
I will post and link the presentation file as a pdf when it’s ready. If you wish to download and print it (several slides to a page), that might help during the class. I post the PowerPoints as pdf files because the PPT files themselves are sometimes huge and take a long time to download.
Session 2 – September 20
Review of the scientific consensus, the scientific explanations of the main effects of greenhouse gas emissions (global warming and ocean acidification), the main competing hypotheses, credibility of computer models, regional climate trends and projections.

Basic science review image set for discussion on Day 2. Please look at the 5 images, organize them into a story that you could use to explain to someone else how global warming is driven by incoming solar radiation and compose that story. I plan to break folks into two of three break-out groups to develop and agree on a story they could develop.
