As a 501-c-3 non-profit, Southern Oregon Climate Action Now cannot endorse candidates for elective office. However, as part of our educational mission, we can provide an opportunity for potential voters to learn where candidates stand on issues of importance to us. We are therefore offering two candidate forums on the topic of ‘Environmental Challenges,’ one for candidates for the Oregon Legislature (Senate District 3, House Districts 5, 6, and 55) and another for candidates seeking a four year term as Jackson County Commissioner (seats 1 and 3). All candidates in the respective races have been invited, though not all have agreed to participate and discuss their views on the environmental challenges of importance to local residents.
These events are scheduled for Monday October 1 (Oregon Legislature) and Monday October 15 (County Commission) to run from 7:00 – 8:30 pm followed by an optional 30-minute Break-out opportunity for attendees to visit individually with candidates who wish to remain. Both events will be held at the Medford Public Library, 205, S. Central Avenue.
Each session will be divided into two halves. The first half will involve questions posed by the organizing team and provided to candidates ahead of the event. The second half will be allocated to questions submitted on cards by members of the audience as they arrive. These will be previewed by team members to eliminate repetition and limit questions to the topic of Environmental Challenges.
For updates on the events, please visit https://socan.eco/events/2018-10/ and click on the forum of interest.
Live streaming will be available at: https://www.facebook.com/SOClimate/
Following the sessions, recorded videos will be available at: https://socan.eco/forum
Candidates are seated alphabetically left to right by race, not by party affiliation.
