Coastal SOCAN and Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) in Brookings are planning a very large and informative celebration for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. This event will be something you won’t want to miss.
Meet the people who care for the rivers, forests and animals of the Curry & Del Norte coast. Learn about current local and global environmental issues and what our communities are doing to protect our abundant and beautiful region. College advisors will be present to talk with prospective students about how to jumpstart a career in science.
Listen to concise 20-minute presentations about environmental issues affecting Curry & Del Norte Counties now and in the future. Hear about local solutions for alternative energy, resiliency of the community in a time of severe weather, ocean acidification and other consequences of climate crisis. Hear a panel of community leaders discuss the future of our region in a changing environmental, social, economic, and political climate.

ART, POETRY, & SNACKS:
Enjoy Earth Day themed paintings and sculptures —- hear local poets —- enjoy light refreshments.
Win door prizes from participating organizations by getting stamps from each of their information tables on an Earth Day passport card. Support local community efforts by trying your luck in a silent auction in which all proceeds go to a scholarship for a student attending SWOCC.
