The Board of Southern Oregon Climate Action Now is delighted to announce that Daniel Scotton has accepted their offer to become SOCAN’s first Executive Director, effective April 1st. Up until Daniel’s appointment to this role, SOCAN has been led by co-founders and volunteer co-facilitators Kathy Conway and Alan Journet. As SOCAN transitions to new leadership by our first staff employee, Conway and Journet will remain as co-facilitators.

Scotton was selected by the Board as the most qualified candidate from among qualified applicants following a lengthy fundraising campaign and search. He comes to SOCAN from a position as Business Services Consultant with Equus Workforce Solutions in Medford. Daniel was raised in the Rogue Valley and thus knows the area, its residents and its socio-political climate well. He earned a double major Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and International Business from Hamline University in St. Paul Minnesota in 2019 and has since worked in a variety of roles in Minnesota and the Rogue Valley. Having served with both the Medford and Ashland Chambers of Commerce where he developed a network of contacts, Daniel carried with him into the interview process an array of excellent references testifying to his interpersonal and technological skills and his promise in non-profit leadership.

As noted, Daniel is a student of philosophy specializing in 17th and 18th-century French and German Continental Philosophy, with a focus on Aphoristic writing. Off the clock, he indulges in creative pursuits, blending philosophy and poetry, exploring graphic design, studying cinematography, and pondering cosmology. A dedicated yoga practitioner, Daniel’s multifaceted interests enrich his scholarly endeavors with creativity and curiosity.

Southern Oregon Climate Action Now is excited to welcome Daniel to our team. We look forward to Daniel’s leadership and a long and productive relationship.
